General Motors Co. Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra offered to manufacture hospital ventilators in auto factories shuttered due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow.

Kudlow said on Fox News an auto executive said she may call back workers on a two-week hiatus to make the medical devices needed to treat critically ill virus patients “on a voluntary basis for civic and patriotic reasons.”

He told reporters following the interview the executive who floated the idea was Barra.

GM didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
