As of February, smart speakers were found in 18.7 million U.S. households. That reflects 20 percent of all homes connected to Wi-Fi.[1]
It also reflects a stunning level of growth. Last November, just 12 percent of Wi-Fi homes had smart speakers.
Smart speakers are wireless speakers with voice control built into them.[2]
A comScore analysis attributes the rapid growth partly to the holiday season and partly to new products at lower prices. And the growth is expected to continue. Susan Engleson, senior director of emerging products at comScore, commented, "I can imagine in just or a year or two, a smart speaker will be a must-have for incoming college freshmen." Not only that, "The 2018 holiday season could see a device in every child’s bedroom."
