June 28, 2023: Fifty-four percent (54%) of voters believe that the United States provides too much government control including 29% who say it provides far too much. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 22% believe the U.S. provides too much individual freedom, and 15% say the balance is about right.
The survey also found that 71% trust the American people more than political leaders when it comes to making major policy decisions. Just 14% trust political leaders more.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on June 13-15, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
