June 20, 2023: Twenty-seven percent (27%) of voters believe that America will be a socialist country in 20 years. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 41% think it will not be, and 32% are not sure.
A similar poll conducted by Gallup in 1965 found that 25% believed America would be a socialist country 20 years later, in 1985. The stability of this perspective is remarkable given the dramatic changes in both domestic and international politics since 1965.[1]
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on June 6-7, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc.
Certain quotas were applied, and the -sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
