August 13, 2018: Six vinyl records have been purchased by collectors for more than $100,000 each. Four of the six are by the Beatles, and one is by Elvis Presley. But the most expensive vinyl yet sold — for $2 million — was from rap collective Wu-Tang Clan.

Vinyl records were a staple of the 1950s and 1960s music scene. However, they seemed to disappear completely in the face of emerging technologies. Fewer than a million copies were sold in 2005. That number has grown to more than 14 million today. And there is a growing number of collectors who prefer the music quality of vinyl over streamed and compressed sound from digital sources.
