Facebook Deletes Cheerleader's Photos of Hunted Animals After Outcry

By    |   Tuesday, 08 July 2014 01:46 PM EDT

Facebook has deleted controversial photos posted by a Texas cheerleader and avid hunter after a public outcry and a petition to the company signed by over 250,000 people requesting the images be removed.

Facebook said in a statement that it has a policy of removing "reported content that promotes poaching of endangered species, the sale of animals for organized fight or content that includes extreme acts of animal abuse," according to the Daily Mail.

Kendall Jones, a Texas Tech University cheerleader, sparked controversy last week after posting photos on Facebook of her kills from a trip to Zimbabwe.

After a public outcry, Jones insisted she would not remove the photos, telling followers that she enjoys hunting as part of a conservation effort.

Jones has managed to circumvent Facebook's photo removals by reposting a link from "Fox and Friends" which put together a collage of her images.
