Dennis Prager has long said that leftists never judge their programs or government initiatives by results. By that reasonable metric the programs would have been closed long ago.
Instead the left judges these expensive boondoggles by their intent instead of by outcomes.
And now it appears the same standard is used for judging leftist politicians.
A recent issue of City Journal has a classic headline that accurately sums up the tenure of California Gov. Gavin Newsom: "Governor Preen — California’s Gavin Newsom presides with aristocratic hauteur over a state in crisis."
"Hauteur" is right, as you can see from his most recent scandal where his "Wuflu" mask hypocrisy was run through the wringer at the French Laundry restaurant.
Author Joel Kotkin accurately summarizes Newsom and his milieu, "Newsom handsomely epitomizes the preening politics of the California elite class that has nurtured and financed his career from the beginning."
Call it looking good while doing bad.
Here’s a summary of California’s "Kungflu" economic performance under what passes for "leadership" in the governor’s office. “California’s unemployment rate stood at 11 percent, well above the national average of 7.9% …Since the March lockdown, California, with 12% of the nation’s population, accounts for 16.4% of all unemployment. California also is recovering jobs slower than all but two states, tourism-dependent Hawaii and Nevada."
Gov. Hairspray is a luxury leftist who is shielded from the impact of his fashionable bad ideas by an airbag composed of rich political dilettantes and a subservient media.
His political career has been financed and enabled by the founders of Gap clothing, the founders of the Hyatt Hotel chain and the Gettys, who made their fortune in oil but now that they’re rich have moved on to windmills.
And speaking of windmills, Newsom’s Green Worship is much more fanatical than any brand of Bible–thumping Christianity.
You could call his climate policies an unholy alliance of Druids and state.
The jobs, income and the economic well–being of Californians not descended from J. Paul Getty are sacrificed on the altar of Newsome’s Green worship.
"Newsom’s defenders praise his energy policies, which in 2017 alone increased prices at three times the national rate. These increases have been devastating to poorer Californians, particularly in the state’s less temperate interior, where 'energy poverty' has grown rapidly."
Blue collar workers have really taken Newsom’s good intentions on the chin. "Over the past decade, the Golden State has fallen into the bottom half of states in manufacturing-sector employment growth, ranking 44th last year; its industrial new-job creation has been negative."
Not content with that record of economic devastation, Newsom is now busy undermining the economic competitiveness of the state’s major ports, Los Angeles, Long Beach and Oakland. He’s ordered those ports to exclusively use expensive and less efficient electric trucks to move freight.
Houston can hardly wait for the edicts to take effect.
It’s reasonable to ask how Newsom gets away with this misrule?
That’s easy.
Newsome acts like the dictator he accuses President Trump of wanting to be.
Newsom issues executive orders like a king or queen (think of Marie Antoinette) issues edicts.
When that isn’t convenient, the governor has his wishes imposed by the state bureaucracy which he controls.
California isn’t a democracy. The legislature is largely an irrelevant and expensive set of puppets. California is an oligopoly run for the benefit of the wealthy at the expense of everyone else.
Kotkin is optimistic that California voters may soon rebel.
We are less so.
The state Republican party is essentially moribund and has no candidate on the horizon that could offer a real alternative to His Majesty Gavin the First.
We think Californians fed up with Newsom's failures will take a more immediate step and vote with their feet. Following the jobs and opportunity to states not run by arrogant, out-of-touch hypocrites.
