No anger, no frustration, no worries. When the
Florida Supreme Court announced its unconstitutional and flawed decision to
start hand recounts in order to troll for more Al Gore votes, it meant
nothing to me.
After 32 days of stomping my feet, of high-fiving fellow
conservatives, of loathing the constitutional crisis that Gore has thrust
this country into, the Florida Supremes' nonsensical decision left me ... well,
without much of a reaction.
I have the quiet confidence that comes with the realization that this awful
4-3 decision is the same as applying a Band-Aid to someone who has just bled
to death.
How could it mean anything, when we all know that
1) the Florida
Supreme Court's chief justice, himself a partisan Democrat, admits in his
dissent that the ruling won't stand up to the U.S. Constitution;
2) the U.S.
Supreme Court has already warned these Florida Supremes not to mess with the
Constitution and will undoubtedly slap them around and overrule them again;
3) the Florida Legislature is now feeling like the bull having the red flag
waved in front of its face and will now certainly certify Florida's 25
electors for George W. Bush; and
4) if this crisis gets thrown into Congress'
lap, the Republican-controlled Congress will obviously do the right thing and
name Bush.
And so I'm left without much worry.
Al Gore and his smarmy lawyers can't
climb all those mountains. They can't possibly conquer all the obstacles in
front of them. It'll take a lot more than a few campaign-contributing
Democrats on the Florida Supreme Court to steal this election from George W.
Bush. And so they should get all their smirking and gloating done while they
can; it won't last long.
It's like the old cliché says: None of us who support George W. and the
rule of the law need to get mad. We'll just get even.
