Whip Them Good

It’s very simple. Either you believe in the principles outlined in the founding documents, or you don’t. If you do, then you will also understand the tremendous risks the Founding Fathers took to bring forth a new nation.

Consider that they also faced a hostile environment. The odds of taking on the British and beating them were very slim. They made the decision to revolt knowing full well that the outcome would likely be a horrible death at the end of a rope.

Our Founding Fathers knew they were risking the safety and security of their families, and that they would be spending their fortunes, or in most cases mortgage the little bit of property they were able to eke out of a hostile forest, in exchange for the mere possibility of a victory. They knew that even if they were able to dislodge the Brits, there was little money in the colonies to form and maintain a new government.

The Founding Fathers were great men of vision who cared deeply about their fellow men. Most were devoted Christians who were sensitive and courageous. In fact, any examination of our country’s past, including those harsh revolutionary days, should serve to put our present problems into proper perspective. What appears catastrophic to us today would be considered much less a crisis than we might suppose.

Is the country "going to Hell in a hand basket"? Sometimes it might appear that way. On the other hand, the Founders risked it all to give us the tools – tools we still possess to make the changes we think we should have. Not only that, they sacrificed everything to right an obvious wrong. In return for their courage and dedication we celebrate Independence Day. We commemorate with our picnics and fireworks, our flag-waving and patriotic songs.

We must not betray our Founders’ sacrifice by walking away from a good fight. They faced death, expulsion of property and imprisonment of their families at the hands of their tyrants. Our political enemies will scream nasty epithets and stomp their feet at us. I hope we can appreciate the difference between how it was then, and how it is today.

We have such a wonderful country, and we are free! It doesn’t take very much sacrifice on our part to maintain that freedom. Complaining about how Hard-Left Liberals are unfair, how they cheat, lie, or steal will not change anything. We need to beat Hard-Left Liberals in our courtroom, in the court of public opinion, and in the voting booth. Let’s vow this Fourth of July to take on the Hard-Left and whip them good. All we have to fear are the insults they’ll toss our way. Let’s stop whining about it, and get busy.
