Voting 'Constitutional'

It means that your congressman casts his votes based on the strict limitations set forth in the United States Constitution. In other words, if the Constitution doesn’t say that the federal government can do it, don’t vote for it.

Do any of you really think that a significant number of our elected officials really pay attention to the Constitution when they’re casting their votes?

Here is some research showing just how highly our Congressmen think of the Constitution:

· Among current members of the U.S. House, 96 percent vote with the Constitution less than 24 percent of the time.

· More than 63 percent of current U.S. House members vote with the Constitution less than half the time.

· There are 212 Democrats in the House right now. They vote with the Constitution an average of 22 percent of the time.

· There are 221 Republicans in the House. They vote with the Constitution about 58 percent of the time.

· The average for all members of Congress is voting with the Constitution about 40 percent of the time.

· Only 18 members of the House vote with the Constitution more than 75 percent of the time.

All of these people took an oath (you know, the "So help me God" bit) to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. Now you see how well they’ve done.

It would surely be interesting to ask a member of the House this question: "Congressman, can you name one time in your illustrious career when you actually didn’t vote for a piece of legislation you wanted because of your belief that it violated the U.S. Constitution?"
