U.S. Supreme Court's Decision Pleases Bush

Monday, 04 December 2000 12:00 AM EST

Bush said that many experts said there was no chance of the U.S. Supreme Court even hearing the case, but "now they're involved in making sure the outcome of the election is fair."

In response to whether he thinks Al Gore should concede, Bush said: "That's a very difficult decision for anyone to make, I understand that. I believe I won this election on the first count and the second count and on the third count, but the vice president is going to have to make the decisions that he thinks are necessary."

As to reports that Gore's refusal to concede is hurting the economy, Bush said, "there are some warning signs about the U.S. economy that I think ought to be taken seriously."

Bush said his camp was dedicated to moving forward, and therefore he has asked Vice President-elect Dick Cheney to meet with Republican leaders on Capitol Hill Tuesday to discuss their agenda.
