Left Flips on Counting Votes/Census

Friday, 29 December 2000 12:00 AM EST

Why the sudden switch in "standards"?

Well, it’s obvious that, true to form, left-wingers have spun themselves completely around by now insisting that computer model "guesstimates" be utilized to augment census counts, only because they believe such methods will benefit them politcally.

The Left, it must be remembered, cannot be trusted to tell the truth.

After all, no one actually believed them when they maintained that their motivation for insisting on hand counts in Florida was because they actually wanted every vote to be counted. They really only wanted to get more Gore votes, plain and simple.

So now they shift gears and, all of a sudden, advocate that the exact opposite method be used to gain political advantage.

The Left is never consistent in what it champions.

And they never feel constrained by whatever previous position they have staked out.

No, the Left cares only about how they can benefit right now, at this moment.

So what if that means completely abandoning a position they held just an hour ago! They will do anything, and attempt to justify it, merely to advance their cause.

And that is why they have flipped on the issue of counting.

They have gone so far in this regard as to have effectively rewritten the great line "How much do I love thee? Let me count the ways" to "How much will we do to win the political wars? Let me count the ways."

Think about it: When it came to the Florida recounts, the Left wanted to ignore the existing state law – which provided for hand counts only in the case of natural disaster, fraud, or massive machine breakdown. They insisted on a course clearly outside the law. Why? Because only an illegal "solution" could get them enough votes; therefore, they cried out that every single vote

But, when it comes to the census – which the Constitution requires be performed by a physical count of the population – the Left doesn't want to go along. They want to go outside the Constitution and therefore demand "statistical analysis" because they believe that's the only way they stand to gain politically.

Some call this situational ethics. Others would refer to it as hypocrisy.

In other words, there are no bounds to the extent the Left will go to gain political advantage.

And that, you can count on.

But let not your hearts be troubled.

Because when it comes to the census, some other realities are at play:

1. The new Bush administration will make the decision regarding sampling to augment the actual counts.

2. Republicans control more than enough governorships and state legislative chambers to impact the new congressional lines in 2002.

3. This whole exercise of trying to impact the drawing of new districts will be seen for the political charade it is.

Which is why, when all is said and done, the Left will continue to be exposed as the opportunists they have always been, especially as growing numbers of people realize that their movement is a fraud and is repugnant to everything America stands for.

This, too, you can – and should – count on, as the Left continues to prove its own lack of political credibility, even as it demonstrates its sole purpose is to grab and hold power.
