After he lost an extremely close election in Florida, he lost a closer recount. At that point he should have gone away. Instead, he developed a plan to use the courts to try to gain the presidency by forcing the State of Florida to count as votes ballots that under Florida law were not valid that had never before been counted for any candidate in any election.
He knew that he couldn't win under the rules in place on Election Day, so he tried to change the rules. For five weeks his lawyers dragged this country though this agonizing count, recount and count again nonsense.
In the end, Gore's attempts to change the law to provide him with a win didn't work. He should always be remembered, though, as the candidate who couldn't accept a close call and who was willing to trash the rule of law to gain the power he coveted.
Democrats are just seething about the Supreme Court decision, saying the election was stolen by the Supreme Court. Of course, they can’t point out where the Supreme Court erred or where the law was incorrectly applied.
Look, it’s over! But it’s clear the Democrats are never going to let this thing go. They’re going to hammer on the "stolen election" theme for two years.
They need power. They thrive on it. They’ve controlled the Congress for most of our lives, and they just cannot adjust to a minority party position. They believe in some sort of divine right to rule, and this divine right means that the ordinary rules of civility and decency don’t apply when it comes to regaining their seat on the throne.
Just remember this simple, irrefutable fact, folks: The Democrats demanded that votes be counted for Al Gore that have never been counted for any candidate in any election in the history of Florida, while working hard to throw out votes of members of the military serving abroad.
The slogan-master, Jesse Jackson, has a new mission: He's going to prove that Al Gore won the election in Florida. Jackson and his Rainbow/PUSH group are going to use freedom of information laws in Florida to count the votes themselves.
And next month, around the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Jackson plans "massive, nonviolent demonstrations."
All because Jackson and his crowd can't bear to accept the fact that Al Gore is not president-elect of the United States. They can't come to terms with the idea that their meal ticket the Democratic Party is not in control of the White House. They're shattered that their plans to secure more government goodies and preferences, while requiring less and less personal responsibility from their constituents, won't proceed full speed ahead.
They're concerned, too, that their status as America’s foremost victims is going to be threatened by the performance of people such as Colin Powell in the Bush Cabinet.
What a crybaby the nation’s pre-eminent publicity whore! Doesn't anyone in Jesse Jackson's inner circle realize what an ass he's making of himself?
Conciliation, that’s what the liberals are calling on from George W. Bush. He must bend over backward to make certain that Democrats don’t have their feelings hurt.
How should Bush do this? How should he pay penance for winning what the Democrats believe is rightfully theirs?
It’s all very simple. The left through its allies in the media is pushing the idea that Bush should get a liberal Democrat to fill a Cabinet seat.
If Gore had won, do you think these same commentators would be talking of the necessity for Gore to put a conservative Republican in his Cabinet?
Yeah, sure.
