Ahead of this week's United Nations General Assembly, world leaders are urging President Donald Trump to embrace multilateral diplomacy over his America First agenda, Foreign Policy reports.
Specifically, #MAGA is not helping the world get any closer to a resolution on North Korea and climate change while keeping Iran in check.
"The world will have an overarching message for Trump this week: You have had your 'America First' fun, now get back to serious diplomacy," Richard Gowan of the European Council on Foreign Relations told Foreign Policy. "That applies to climate change, Iran and North Korea."
While Trump exhorts the rest of the world to help tamp down North Korea, the rest of the world wants Trump to reconsider the Paris climate accord and keep the U.S. in the Iran nuclear accord.
However, Trump's showing up — and hosting a summit — is heartening in some corners; many thought the president would not attend at all.
"Many thought that President Trump may not come to the U.N. week, that he may not speak, that he may not show any interest in affairs of the United Nations," one diplomat told Foreign Policy. "He's coming and hosting an event that has the purpose to support the Secretary General of the United Nations' reform policy. I find that quite remarkable."
But Trump's message at the summit may not be what the rest of the world wants to hear.
"This country wants a leader who is tough on terrorism, is not going to coddle them, is not going to apologize for America around the world, and you're going to see that through President Trump's leadership at the United Nations General Assembly [UNGA]," Kellyanne Conway said Sunday.
