It would be a good idea for President Donald Trump to release his tax returns, Rep. Will Hurd, R-Texas, said on Monday.
Hurd's comments came during an interview on CNN's "New Day" program. When asked if he believes Trump should release his taxes, Hurd responded: "I think it would be a good move."
Hurd added he believes in the importance of transparency.
"I think being transparent is important especially being the most important person in the world — the most powerful person in the world," he said. "I do believe in transparency and that always wins the day."
Hurd was uncertain whether Trump would release his tax returns in the future.
"I don't have any indication either way on that," he said. "But I think it would solve a lot of problems."
Trump's senior adviser Kellyanne Conway told ABC News that Trump would not be releasing his tax returns.
"The White House response is that he's not going to release his tax returns," she said.
"We litigated this all through the election. People didn't care. They voted for him, and let me make this very clear: most Americans are, are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while President Trump is in office, not what his look like."
