The White House has formally withdrawn the nomination to a circuit court judgeship for Ryan Bounds, The Hill reported.
The withdrawal comes after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., last week announced that his nomination would not be voted on because of a lack of support.
Both senators from Bounds' home state of Oregon, Democratic Sens. Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, objected to his nomination.
They pointed out writings from when Bounds was a student at Stanford University, which they said revealed alarming views on race, workers’ rights, and the gay community.
Part of what sank Bounds' nomination was a decades-old article that said diversity training was a "pestilence." During Bounds’ confirmation hearing in May, he apologized for his writings, which he said were "often overheated, overbroad,” The Hill reported.
Every Democratic senator had been expected to vote against Bounds, and two Republican senators also weighed in against him, The Hill reported.
