Americans have cast more than 3 million votes for the general election so far.
According to CNN, in excess of 2 million ballots have been returned in 10 of the most competitive states, and registered Democrats account for more than half of the people who have voted in those states.
Requests for mail-in ballots are also up from years past. North Carolina, for example, has seen a massive increase in voters asking for ballots they can fill out at home and mail back to their county offices.
The North Carolina State Board of Elections tweeted Monday, "As of this morning, county boards of elections had received 1,193,857 mail-in ballot requests! That's nearly 9X the number of requests received at this time in 2016."
Democrats make up the majority of voters who have asked for mail-in ballots in North Carolina. CNN noted that about 30% of those ballots have already been returned.
The report adds that over 32 million Americans have requested mail-in ballots for the November general election amid the coronavirus pandemic.
It was reported last month, meanwhile, that Democrats were outpacing Republicans in asking for mail-in ballots in several key battleground states.
