Voters in Maine, Tennessee, and Arizona disapprove of the new GOP tax plan, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
Fifty-three percent of voters in Maine said they disapproved of the current plan compared to just 22 percent who said they approved. In Arizona, 44 percent disapproved and 26 percent approved, while 47 percent approved in Tennessee compared to 37 percent who did not approve.
The poll was conducted by Democratic pollster Hart Research Associates and provided to USA Today by Americans for Tax Fairness, a liberal advocacy group.
The House passed its version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act last Thursday. The Senate Finance Committee reported the Republican bill to the full chamber on the same day, advancing it to the Senate floor for consideration by the full chamber. The full Senate is likely to consider the bill after Thanksgiving.
The plan lowers rates for individuals and families and dramatically cuts the top corporate rate. It also takes away deductions and credits.
Voters polled said they opposed the legislation because they felt the plan favored the wealthy and did not reduce their own taxes.
Hart Research surveyed 400 registered voters in each of the states this week.
