Kid Rock, who had playfully teased about making a Senate run, has donated $122,000 he raised to a Republican voter registration group, The Detroit News reports.

The donation was announced by the singer's publicist. The money was raised by selling "Kid Rock for U.S. Senate" merchandise.

The donation went to CRNC Action, an affiliate of the College Republican National Committee, according to the Detroit News. Last year, the group had organized voter registration drives at Kid Rock concerts.

The performer's real name is Robert Ritchie. He is said to have toyed with the idea of a possible Republican bid against Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow in Michigan.

He later conceded he was never going to actually enter the race.

The Hill noted the watchdog group, Common Cause, filed an ethics complaint last September and claimed Ritchie might have been violating campaign finance law.
