Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley scorned President Joe Biden on Tuesday over the possibility of rejoining the United Nation's Human Rights Council, referring to the body as a "cesspool" that makes a mockery of the concept of basic rights.
"The U.N. Human Rights Council is a cesspool of political bias that makes a mockery of human rights," she wrote in a Twitter post. "If Biden rejoins the council whose membership includes dictatorial regimes & some of the world's worst human rights violators, it will fly in the face of our fight for human rights."
Biden said during the presidential election campaign he would rejoin the UN's Human Rights Council, an organization President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from while Haley was the U.S. ambassador to the U.N.
"For too long, the Human Rights Council has been a protector of human rights abusers, and a cesspool of political bias," Haley said at the time.
The decision was based on the Human Rights Council's seemingly never-ending criticism of Israel, while ignoring what many consider far more egregious violations by China, Venezuela, Cuba, and Sudan, all of whom sit on the council.
Biden reiterated his intention to have the United States rejoin the panel in a Dec. 10 post on Medium.
The White House did not respond to Fox News' request for comment on Haley's comments. The United States cannot rejoin the UN's human rights panel until later this year at the earliest.
