Trump: Tweeting Gets Me Around 'Fake, Dishonest Press'
Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight"

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he has no intention to stop tweeting even though it sometimes creates controversy.

The reason, he told Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight," is it helps him speak directly to the people without the filter of the "fake and dishonest press."

"Maybe I would not be here if it wasn't for Twitter," Trump said, referring to his unexpected rise from darkhorse candidate to GOP nominee to the Oval Office.

Though many reporters he knows are go people, he said, others, including CNN, NBC, CBS and ABC, are "despicable in their coverage."

But Carlson pointed out that even some of Trump's own supporters have said they'd like him to tone it down as president, pointing out that his successfully reviewed joint address to Congress ended up overshadowed by his early morning tweet that former President Barack Obama had ordered surveillance on Trump Tower.

Trump said he believes that tweet will prove not to be a mistake, adding that he wants all his messages to his 100 million followers across all forms of social media to connect with people.

"If I do not do that, I won't get my word out," he said. "When I say things, the press does not cover it accurately."
