President Donald Trump ripped into the World Trade Organization Friday, saying it is unfair to the United States while it gives China "tremendous perks and advantages."
Trump's comments came in a late-morning tweet.
The tweet followed Trump warning that he could slap another $100 billion of extra tariffs on China's imports.
China has called on the European Union to take a stand against U.S. protectionism.
These "protectionist moves under the pretext of national security will undermine the credibility of the WTO-centered multilateral trade system, and the rules-based global trade order," said Zhang Ming, the head of the Chinese mission to the EU.
Earlier this week, China had unveiled a list of 106 U.S. goods targeted for tariffs. The move came after the administration proposed tariffs on about 1,300 Chinese industrial, technology, transport and medical products.
