President Donald Trump took the Nike and the National Football League to task Wednesday over the ongoing American flag controversy.
In a Twitter post, he said:
"Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN, Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts. I wonder if they had any idea that it would be this way? As far as the NFL is concerned, I just find it hard to watch, and always will, until they stand for the FLAG!"
Trump's tweet was a commentary on Nike's decision to feature former NFL quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick in an ad campaign.
Yet Nike shares were slightly higher in early trading Wednesday, running counter to the broader market. The shares did fall more than 3 percent Tuesday, though are still up about 28 percent in 2018.
