As President Donald Trump uses his tariff's leverage to work to something closer to reciprocal trade with producing economies like China, he trumpeted "tariffs are working big time" and can help pay down the national debt ru up by the past administration.
Trump added, even as he works tariffs for "much better trade deals for our country," they can also be used to pay the $21 trillion national debt, created " much by the Obama administration."
President Trump has oscillated back and forth heralding himself as a U.S. economic protectionist and, conversely, a free-trader. While he cannot yet have it both ways, his tweets suggests he views tariffs as beneficial to the economy and in leveraging a better trade deal.
The president also tweeted on a couple of other topics Sunday morning, ripping the "dangerous and sick" media and warning they "can also cause war," and adding more attacks on special counsel Robert Mueller's "witch hunt."
