Trump Asks Japan's Abe About Kamikaze Pilot Dad

Friday, 09 August 2019 10:42 PM EDT

President Donald Trump told donors at a Hamptons fundraiser Friday that he asked Japanese President Shinzo Abe about his kamikaze pilot father during recent trade tariffs, the New York Post reports.

Trump talked about his friendship with Abe and said he asked the Japanese president if kamikaze pilots were drunk or on drugs before flying on suicide missions, crashing their planes into enemy Allied ships during World War II.

Abe assured Trump that they weren't, but simply did their duty because they loved their country.

"Imagine they get in a plane with a half a tank of gas and fly into steel ships just for the love of their country!" Trump told his audience on Friday.
