Following the South Florida high school shooting, President Donald Trump has repeatedly said "we have to do something," sources tell ABC News.

While it is uncertain exactly what Trump is looking to do, it is clear he wants options, the network news said.

Word of the president’s comments came after 17 people were murdered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. on Wednesday.

Axios reported the administration is already in the process of setting up meetings with parents of students from other schools. impacted by tragic shootings.

The website said meetings are also being set up with governors and law enforcement officials to see what can be done.

Trump "has a strong interest in background checks ... and other options of school safety — we are working on a number of options over the coming weeks on how best to make our schools safer," a senior administration official said.

"As a safety/security president, he wants to actually make people safer, not just pay lip service."

"We need real solutions that work to make people safer, not just soundbites that sound nice."

Trump had tweeted earlier on Friday about the need to work with Congress on finding a solution.
