President Donald Trump's administration is planning new sanctions against Iran that could be instituted as soon as Friday, according to CBS News.
The sanctions are aimed at foreign entities that have assisted with Iran's ballistic missile program. The sanctions are not believed to be in violation of President Barack Obama's international deal that froze Iran's nuclear program.
Diplomats in Europe said that Trump has agreed to honor Obama's Iran deal. However, Trump questioned why the former president made the deal earlier this week, CBS News reported.
"One of the things I did ask is, 'Why did President Obama sign that agreement with Iran?' because nobody has been able to figure that out," Trump said, according to Fortune.
A bipartisan bill introduced Thursday in the Senate would sanction Iran for launching of ballistic missiles, support for terrorism, transfers of weapons, and violations of human rights, Reuters reports.
The Trump administration quickly installed sanctions on Iran after Trump's January inauguration, announcing them Feb. 3, according to a CBS report at the time.
