Donald Trump has fought vigorously to drastically reduce his property taxes in all but one of 26 properties, CNN reported.
And the one property for which he didn't pursue lower taxable value qualified for a New Jersey farmland tax break because of a small herd of goats present on the grounds of the golf course, according to CNN.
CNN's analysis found that Trump's aggressive tactics have led to a reduction in property taxes by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
All of which is how the game is played.
"Everyone with a big commercial building does that," tax expert Lee Sheppard told CNN. "I mean this is how the system works."
Examples of Trump's negotiating down assessable value, according to CNN:
- Trump National Golf Course outside of Charlotte: $24 million down to $9.7 million;
- Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas: $48 million down to $25 million;
- Trump's Beverly Hills home: $7.2 million down to $6 million.
Trump is seeking a near 30 percent reduction in valuation of the newly opened Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., from $98 million to $28 million.
