Donald Trump increased his presidential campaign spending in March, by loaning it $11.5 million, according to a report filed with
the Federal Election Commission.
The Trump campaign spent $13.8 million in March, the first month he has spent more than rival Ted Cruz, who spent $11.8 million, according to
Politico.
The Trump campaign has pledged to spend $20 million as the campaign continues. Great America, a Trump super PAC, spent $1.2 million but only raised $684,599.
Although the real estate tycoon has made a point about how he is self-financing his campaign, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told his team that Trump is likely to seek outside help if he becomes the presidential nominee,
The New York Times reports.
The race for presidential nominee could cost $1 billion for each candidate and their super PACs, Politico noted.
The FEC filing showed that Trump is spending more on his campaign and his $6.3 million in ad spending is the most in any of his filings.
Reports also show the front-runner spent $1.3 million on campaign merchandise such as hats, mugs, and stickers than he did on payroll ($384,000), field consulting ($375,000) and ballot access consulting ($106,000).
According to the FEC report, Trump's campaign took in $2.7 million in donations during March, mostly from small donors, which puts his fundraising level for his campaign at $12.2 million.
According to Politico, Trump has loaned his campaign almost $36 million.
And, groups that oppose Trump, such as the anti-Trump PAC, Our Principles, reported in its FEC filing that it spent $11.2 million.
