President Donald Trump said Thursday that he's "very excited" about outgoing White House Counsel Don McGahn's successor, while blasting "Fake Reporting" that McGahn has prevented him from firing embattled Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Trump's seventh tweet of the day, which misspelled "counsel," an error corrected in a later repost, said:
"I am very excited about the person who will be taking the place of Don McGahn as White House Councel! I liked Don, but he was NOT responsible for me not firing Bob Mueller or Jeff Sessions. So much Fake Reporting and Fake News!"
No announcement has been made about who will replace McGahn, although at least one report, based on unnamed sources, points to an in-house pick: Emmet Flood, an expert on presidential privilege who worked with President Bill Clinton on his impeachment case.
The Time report quotes Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani as saying Flood would be "an excellent choice" for the position.
