It cost local governments and law enforcement agencies in Palm Beach County, Florida, $13.7 million to protect President Donald Trump during 27 visits he and family members made to his Mar-a-Lago estate, The Palm Beach Post is reporting.
The newspaper attributed the cost to county records. The expenses cover the period from November 2016 through Easter of last year.
A large portion of the costs went to pay for overtime accumulated by Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputies, said Assistant County Administrator Todd Bonlarron.
The deputies, along with the U.S. Secret Service and other local police, are stationed at checkpoints, direct traffic, and guard the perimeters of the president's estate. They also escort the presidential motorcade.
The federal government has already reimbursed the county nearly $10 million for the expenses. Palm Beach County is still owed about $3.8 million, the Post said.
