President Donald Trump hit out at his predecessor on Monday, tweeting that he has a “magic wand,” in a reference to a 2016 remark from former President Barack Obama.
U.S. gross domestic product increased by 4.2 percent in the second quarter of 2018, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
“'President Trump would need a magic wand to get to 4% GDP,’" stated President Obama.
"I guess I have a magic wand, 4.2%, and we will do MUCH better than this! We have just begun,” Trump tweeted Monday morning, in an apparent reference to a remark Obama made in a town hall event with PBC NewsHour in June 2016.
At the time, Obama was questioning Trump’s vow to reinvigorate American manufacturing.
“He just says, ‘I’m gonna negotiate a better deal.’ Well, how exactly are you going to do that? What exactly are you going to do? There’s no answer to it,” the then-president said.
“He just says, ‘Well, I’m going to negotiate a better deal.’ Well, what, how exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually the answer is, he doesn’t have an answer.”
