President Donald Trump will hold a listening session on prison reform Thursday after six months of research into the matter by his son-in-law Jared Kushner, Axios reports.
Though a personal issue for Kushner, whose father was sentenced to two years for tax evasion, the administration also sees reform as a potential windfall with conservatives ahead of the midterms and another way to cut spending, Axios reported.
Koch Industries general counsel Mark Holden told Axios that the strategy Kushner has been researching "has been showed to markedly reduce recidivism."
Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who also has talked with Kushner about the reforms, will also attend the listening session, Axios reports.
While Kushner has been exploring reforms, Sessions has been actively reversing Obama-era sentencing reprieves, especially pertaining to drug offenses.
