A majority of Republicans say President Donald Trump is a better leader than President Abraham Lincoln, a new poll showed.
In the Economist/YouGov weekly tracking survey, 53% of Republicans said Trump was a better president compared with 47% who chose America’s 16th president, who led the nation through the Civil War.
Among all Americans, Lincoln beats out Trump 75% to 25%, with the vast majority of Democrats and independents choosing Lincoln.
The survey also found 87% of Republicans either somewhat or strongly approve of the job he’s doing as president.
Trump in July 2018 boasted about his popularity within the party, telling the London-based Sun newspaper: “You know, a poll just came out that I am the most popular person in the history of the Republican Party… I beat our Honest Abe.”
The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
