President Donald Trump Wednesday morning sent a direct tweet to Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program, sharing a news story about consumer confidence and telling the network program that the United States is in "record" levels with the economy.

His tweet came minutes after the morning news show's hosts had been discussing the decision of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to skip a meeting he'd called.

The Democratic leaders decided to stay away from the meeting after Trump tweeted Tuesday afternoon that he didn't think they'd come to a deal on tax reform. As a result, empty seats were set up flanking Trump at the meeting, with their names in front of the chairs, so he could point out they chose to stay away.

Trump, in his morning tweet to "Fox & Friends," then added a link to a tweet he'd posted Tuesday afternoon concerning a report from Chad Moutray, chief economist for the National Association of Manufacturers, which explains how consumer confidence is at its highest level since December 2000.
