President Donald Trump slammed The New York Times again on Thursday and questioned whether libel laws should be changed.
The president's tweet linked to a column in the New York Post by John Crudele, which charged that the Times was dishonest in its coverage of Trump.
"Soon after the election — one in which the Times' favorite candidate, Hillary Clinton, lost — the paper admitted its mistakes," Crudele wrote.
Following Clinton's defeat, Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger "begged for his readers' forgiveness, although he did seem to choke a little on the apology," he said.
"We aim to rededicate ourselves to the fundamental mission of Times journalism. That is to report America and the world honestly, without fear or favor …," Sulzberger said in a letter to the paper's readers.
But he maintained the Times has not learned its lesson.
Crudele pointed to a January story in the paper about wiretapped data being used in the inquiry of Trump aides.
"That story didn't go as far as to claim what Trump did: that he was wiretapped in Trump Tower — by President [Barack] Obama," he said. "But the Times story does make Trump's accusation look a little less crazy.
"If the paper was really trying to be honest, it would have admitted that its own independent sources —and four reporters — had already verified something like what Trump had alleged."
