Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are locked in a tight race in Indiana ahead of the Hoosier State's primary early next month, according to a new survey.
Here are the results, released Friday, of the
WTHR/HPI Indiana Poll of 500 Republican voters conducted between Monday and Thursday:
- Trump: 37 percent.
- Cruz: 31 percent.
- John Kasich: 22 percent.
The survey marks the first statewide canvassing of voters, reports WTHR-TV in Indianapolis. Voters will go to the polls on May 3. Indiana carries 57 GOP delegates.
In the Democratic race, the spread between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders is even tighter, with the former secretary of state ahead by only three points:
- Clinton: 48 percent.
- Sanders: 45 percent.
The winner of Indiana's Democratic primary race will pick up 92 delegates.
The poll also sampled 500 Democrats, with a margin of error of 4.4 percent. On the GOP side, the margin is 4.3 percent.
