Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has pulled 5 points ahead of Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton in a four-way race for the White House, a new CNN/ORC Poll shows.

In a race including Libertarian Gary Johnson and Jill Stein of the Green Party, the breakdown in the poll released Monday shows:
  • Trump: 44 percent
  • Clinton: 39 percent
  • Johnson: 9 percent
  • Stein: 3 percent

Trump's advantage over Clinton declines to 48 percent-45 percent when respondents were asked to choose between only the two major party candidates.

Although the two-way results are within the poll's 3.5 point margin of error, Trump's number represents a 6-point post Republican National Convention bounce.

CNN report that the poll shows Trump's best performance since September, and indicates the first significant post-convention bounce for any candidate in its polling in 16 years.

In 2000, Al Gore and George W. Bush each got an 8-point post-convention bounce in CNN/ORC surveys.

The CNN/ORC Poll used a random sample of 1,001 adults and was conducted by telephone July 22-24.
