Donald Trump has wanted to run for president since the inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2009, the marketing director for one of the billionaire real estate tycoon's books says.
"We had a little chat about the new President Obama and he said, 'well, I really hope he can help the economy,"' Peter Costanzo who worked on the release of Trump's book
"Think Like a Champion: An Informal Education in Business and Life" said Wednesday on Fox News'
"Fox & Friends."
"Then he said to me, 'You know, I'm thinking of running for president.' And his team confirmed that back then, too."
Costanzo said he also advised the Trump to begin using Twitter to boost his book sales and adopt the name @RealDonaldTrump, which he did.
"There was this imposter at the time who was tweeting as Donald Trump, and he was using the handle '@DonaldTrump,' and I don't think he particularly liked that," Costanzo said.
"So I said when I said to him this is what we can do, let's call you @RealDonaldTrump, I think he liked the sound of that."
