Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., urged President Donald Trump to sign the massive COVID-19 relief and government funding bill as is — risk a legacy of “chaos and misery.”
In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Toomey said Americans urgently need the financial stimulus.
“He’ll be remembered for chaos and misery and erratic behavior if he allows this to expire,” Toomey said of Trump’s inaction on signing the bill.
“I understand the president would like to send bigger checks to everybody,” he said.
“I think what he ought to do is sign this bill and then make the case,” Toomey said. “I don’t agree with $2,000 to people who have had no lost income whatsoever, but the president’s free to make that case.”
“You don’t get everything you want, even if you’re president of the United States,” Toomey added. “I think the COVID relief measures are really, really important… In my state, as in many other states, we have governors who are closing down businesses again.”
Toomey also criticized the president for going too far with pardons in the last days of his administration.
"I mean, my goodness, we have tax fraud and bank fraud, witness tampering, obstruction of justice, but because they were close to the president they got pardoned," he lamented.
