Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez' comments that New York House candidate and socialist Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the "future" of his party will make it easier for Republicans to win in midterm elections in November, Fox News contributor Tomi Lahren said Wednesday.
"As a [Donald] Trump supporter and as a conservative, I think it's going to make the midterms easier for us because the American people are smarter than that," Lahren told "Fox & Friends."
On Tuesday, Perez told a radio program, "The Bill Press Show," that he does have "great respect" for Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., the incumbent candidate Ocasio-Cortez defeated, The Hill reported.
Ocasio-Cortez, 28, had worked as an organizer with Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign, and ran on a platform calling to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE].
Lahren said she's "terrified" by the thought that a socialist could win a primary, but as a Republican she is happy that Democrats are "finally being transparent."
She also said Middle America doesn't want to see socialism, and she does not think there will be a "blue wave" taking over Congress this fall.
"I don't think we're going to see a blue wave. In fact, I think we're going to see a red wave stronger than ever," Lahren said.
