Republican Backed by Pence Loses Texas Runoff

Bunni Pounds was defeated Tuesday in a Texas primary runoff by state Rep. Lance Gooden. Pounds is a GOP fundraiser who has never held office and was backed by the Pence to replace outgoing Texas congressman Jeb Hensarling of Dallas.

Pounds was also Hensarling's former campaign manager.

Hensarling was the powerful chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. He's one of eight Texas congressmen not seeking re-election this year.
