Former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial will be “fair” and “relatively” quick, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said in an interview with MSNBC this week.

Last Friday, Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., reached an agreement to hold the trial in two weeks, giving Congress time to focus on other issues.

“During that period,” Schumer told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Monday, according to The Guardian, “the Senate will continue to do other business for the American people, such as Cabinet nominations and the COVID relief bill, which would provide relief for millions of Americans who are suffering during this pandemic.”

"The trial will be done in a way that is fair but it will move relatively quickly," he continued, according to The Hill.

"I don't think there's a need for a whole lot of witnesses," Schumer said, noting that the trial will be “fair,” but Democrats will "not let the Republicans be dilatory."

Schumer added at another point in the interview that Trump’s “act on the 6th [of January] was the most despicable thing any president has ever done,” and said. “You can’t just sweep some of these egregious things under the rug. Plain and simple.”
