President Donald Trump is urging Democrats to open schools up safely.

On Thursday, Trump called on Democrat leaders to “OPEN THE SCHOOLS (SAFELY), NOW!” on Twitter.

He added that when schools are closed, the money should “follow the child” or family.

“Why should schools be paid when they are closed?” he posted. “They shouldn’t!”

Trump has been pushing for the reopening of schools this fall even though the coronavirus pandemic is still impacting the country.

Many school districts have started the school year already with remote learning. Schools that have reopened have put virus mitigation measures in place. For example, students are required to wear face masks and their desks are separated to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
