Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union, said Robert Mueller will soon be out as special counsel now that William Barr has been confirmed as attorney general.
Schlapp made his comments in a tweet on Thursday. He wrote: “Tomorrow will be the first day that President Trump will have a fully operational confirmed Attorney General. Let that sink in. Mueller will be gone soon.”
The Senate confirmed Barr on Thursday and he was sworn in as attorney general hours later, The New York Times noted.
Schlapp, whose wife, Mercedes, works as a strategic communications adviser in the White House, did not provide any details on what he was basing his prediction on.
During his confirmation hearing, Barr noted that he and Mueller are “good friends,” Politico reported.
But the website pointed out that Barr had previously written a memo calling the special’s counsel probe “fatally misconceived.”
