A former White House aide Sunday blasted the policy “chants” of four Democratic minority congresswomen, calling them “disconcerting” because they criticize the United States.
In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week," Mercedes Schlapp, a campaign aide who’s served as White House director of strategic communications, declared, “I have worked with President Trump for two years and he is not a racist.”
“He's a compassionate man whose policies have focused on the minority community,” she insisted.
“What I’m unhappy about are the chants of the squad,” she said of the four progressive lawmakers, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.
“They're fundamentally criticizing the United States, they’re attacking our law enforcement... that to us is very disconcerting," she said.
She also insisted Trump “made it very clear” that he disagreed with a rally chant to “send her back” aimed at Omar.
But she declared: “I will tell you, he stands with those people in North Carolina, across the country who support him. And why? Because they love America.”
