Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., on Sunday called the delay in sending articles of impeachment to the Senate a ploy by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., “to carry out her own quid pro quo.’”

In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Scalise derided the House Democrats' impeachment case as “weak.”

"Pelosi is exposing the fact she has no case and trying to have one more bite at the apple,” he said.

“Every one of their witnesses said there was no quid pro quo,” Scalise said of accusations that President Donald Trump tied military aid to Ukraine to its conducting a corruption probe of political rival Joe Biden, adding it’s Pelosi’s “duty” to turn over the articles of impeachment.

“Maybe she’s trying to carry out her own quid pro quo,” he chided, asserting: “They had a weak case.”

“They had this obsession,” he said of Democrats, calling the process “a political charade.”

Scalise also condemned an anti-Semitic attack in Monsey, N.Y., saying the rise in hate crimes has to be “called out.”

“We’re seeing a growing of anti-Semitism,” he said, adding, “We all need to stand up and say it’s wrong…call it out for what it is. I think [a federal response] needs to be quick and direct.”
