Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., on Thursday said that Congress has “no justification” for delaying the upcoming elections despite White House adviser Jared Kushner implied in an interview that it could be changed.
“We've had elections in the middle of the Civil War and in the middle of World War II," Blunt, the chair of the Senate Rules Committee, told CNN. "I can think of no justification for changing the elections."
Kushner said in an interview with Time magazine that he couldn’t “commit one way or the other” when asked if elections will take place on November 3rd, but said “right now that’s the plan.”
Former Vice President Joe Biden predicted last month that President Donald Trump will try to postpone the general election.
"Mark my words, I think he is going to try to kick back the election some, come up with some rationale why it can't be held,” he told donors.
A spokesperson for Trump’s reelection campaign told The Hill that Biden “invented the baseless conspiracy theory of a delayed election,” and that “Reporters should ask Biden why he’s intent on fueling confusion among voters at a time when they’re looking for normalcy. Every time Joe Biden opens his mouth he tries to divide Americans and spread confusion and he should stop it for the good of the country.”
