The debate on why the Senate was not able to pass healthcare reform entered Hollywood territory this week, with one lawmaker comparing the GOP's failed effort to the film "Dunkirk."
Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., gave a speech at a rotary club Tuesday and referenced the film while talking about the unsuccessful bid to repeal Obamacare last month.
"The French and British faced a 'setback' in fighting the Germans," Wicker said, per The Dispatch. "And that is what the Senate has faced with healthcare."
The "Dunkirk" film told the story of the 1940 Battle of Dunkirk, during which British and Allied military forces evacuated from a French beach as Germany claimed France as its own.
Wicker was referring to the late-night vote two weeks ago that was highlighted by Sen. John McCain's no vote on the skinny repeal of Obamacare. If McCain had voted yes, the measure would have passed.
"In the Senate, we came up one vote short of going to conference with the House with a plan," Wicker said. "My team had a setback a couple of weeks ago, but we're still determined to get the job done."
