Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum took an accepting tone toward transgender Caitlyn Jenner on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront," according
Politico.
After Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner, announced in April that she was a Republican, Santorum said that he would "welcome an endorsement if she were to offer it," Politico reported.
"Here is the thing I always say — never ask anyone why they’re voting for you. Because you probably won’t like the answer. Because people vote for you for all sorts of reasons," the Republican presidential candidate told Burnett on Thursday. "And that’s fine."

"And I — I accept whatever reason anybody wants to vote for me, whoever they are," he said. "Of course, I accept their vote."
Since Jenner has revealed her new identity on the cover of Vanity Fair, Politico reports that this is not the first time Santorum has weighed in on Jenner's transformation.
"If he says he's a woman, then he's a woman," Santorum said, according to Politico.
"My, my job as a human being is to treat everybody with dignity, respect, period. Stop. Full stop. No qualification to that," he said.
Last week,
South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, also a GOP presidential candidate, said that he too "welcomes" Jenner into his party.
"I haven't walked in her shoes," Graham said in an
interview with CNN. "I don't have all the answers to the mysteries of life. I can only imagine the torment that Bruce Jenner went through. I hope he's — I hope she has found peace."
